At the 1871 census he is still at 33 London Street but described as a Hair Dresser again. In Wright's Directory, 1874, he is a General Dealer,Brush & Basket Maker at 55b St Peter Street. By the 1881 census he is a widowed Umbrella Maker, aged 64, living with his son Arthur.
