The following appears in Hamnett's notes: A rather interesting announcement was made in the Manchester Guardian, October 30th, 1824; 'Old and Young. On Wednesday last, at Glossop, Mr Thomas Wagstaffe, aged 71 of Woodseats Hall was married to Miss Sarah (aged 16) fourth daughter of of the late Mr Samuel Thornley of Sandy Lane, Chisworth.'. It appears that the reporter had mixed up Sarah with another Sarah, daughter of Samuel Thornley (also of Chisworth but died 1815) and Hannah Bottomley, who was born in 1807 but died in 1813. It also appears he got the wrong Thomas as he died aged 62 in 1842.
