Joined the 43rd (Monmouthshire) Light Infantry Regiment in 1813, aged 17, as ensign.
Lived between the towns of Sligo and Ballyshannon from 1823 and 1828.
Thomas Thornley moved to Coleraine late in 1837 with his children Charlotte and Thomas Blake and joined the Constabulary as Sub- Inspector of police in Coleraine.
Seriously wounded while on active duty as Sub- Inspector of police on 12th December 1849 and died of his wounds.
