The Knife Angel in Middlesbrough, August 8th 2019.

Having seen that the statue had been installed in the town I went down to see it, going via the lake which I remember walking past almost daily when working in that area in the early 1990s.
Sad to see how such a bright, open, area has become overshadowed by modern buildings so that it lacks any "personality" (what on Earth possessed the designer of MIMA to include a great, white, slab for the east facing wall?).
The Bottle of Notes has not been well maintained, with rust patches showing through the paint & grafitti, and the grassed areas which have replaced Victoria Gardens are just a splat of green with no "soul".

On a brighter note, the Knife Angel itself is magnificent and well worth going to see. Hopefully its temporary presence will be the catalyst for revitalising what was previously a pleasant garden to relax in.
